A short distance beyond an inverted orange triangle attached to a metal post, round a minor boulder-covered, north-trending ridge. Descend slightly to a small saddle, and then negotiate a few switchbacks. Just beyond, where the trail and ridge begin steadily descending to the east, leave the trail and scramble a short distance south to the boulder-heaped summit of Peak 7431. Views are somewhat limited due to the thick Jeffrey pine forest.

From this peak, either retrace your route to the trailhead or, if equipped for an overnight stay, follow the trail northeast into Piedra Blanca Creek, where good, conifer-shaded campsites await.
